? ? ? ?Xiao noted, "Implementing a high-quality development strategy for hospitals with innovation and talent training at its core through international collaboration is crucial to the success of this journey."

? ? ? The ICHD 2023 is co-organized by FAH-SYSU, and Mass General Brigham, a leading integrated academic healthcare system from the United States. It was held from October 27 to 29, both online and offline.

? ? ? The conference explored the successful path to promote high-quality hospital development for building world-class medical centers, gathering leaders and experts from world-renowned universities and 14 pilot hospitals in the national public hospitals' high-quality development project.

? ? ? "Today, we live in a world that is more connected than ever, and it's so great to see the US and China still coming together to cooperate on health care. Two great nations sharing a commitment to advancing health care, and collaboration in this area can potentially transform the future of medicine, research, and patient care," said Lisa K. Heller, Consul General of the United States of America in Guangzhou.

? ? ? Institutions must cooperate to give the best care for patients

? ? ? "To give the best care for patients, no hospital can face the challenge independently. We must work together and learn from each other. FAH-SYSU and Mass General Brigham represent two leading medical systems from different nations. Mass General Brigham can contribute its ideas and thoughts on research, while FAH-SYSU possesses massive patient clinical data, which allow us to gain deeper insights into clinical diseases together," said Giles Boland, Executive Vice President of Mass General Brigham.

? ? ? FAH-SYSU is also building a three-dimensional emergency rescue system. "Not only do we have an ER dock and ER helicopters, but we have also designed a mobile ICU equipped with state-of-the-art critical care facilities like CT, ECMO, building a 30-minute rescue circle for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), which attracts the great interests of international experts," said Xiao.

? ? ? Xiao added, "People living in the GBA can directly benefit from medical services. We have established an international medical department in Guangzhou's Nansha District. It will only take 6 minutes for Hong Kong and Macao patients by helicopter in the future."

? ? ? "Our challenge is a matter of all humankind. As we navigate the challenges of our time, it is through these exchanges of ideas and experiences that we can pave the way for a brighter and healthier world," said Boland.

? ? ? Innovation is the driving force for implementing high-quality hospital development

? ? ? "Innovation is the primary driving force for high-quality development. FAH-SYSU is creating a world-class center for research and innovation - the Precision Medicine Grand Science Center," said Xiao.

? ? ? Xiao introduced that FAH-SYSU's research will focus on five major areas: cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, cancer, "triple I," meaning infection, inflammation and immunology, data science and AI, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine.

? ? FAH-SYSU has also established six major platforms which involve such areas as basic and translational research, interdisciplinary research, medical big data and AI, clinical research, public health research.

? ? ? "Each year, we provide support of 1 million, 3 million, and 5 million RMB to various levels of specialties. The support will last for three years to comprehensively improve the capabilities in clinical practice, scientific innovation, and talent development for these disciplines and specialties," added Xiao.

? ? ? Talent is core of high-quality hospital development

? ? ? Xiao emphasized that talent is the primary resource and core for high-quality development. FAH-SYSU comprehensively focuses on the clinical, research, teaching, and leadership capabilities of talents.

? ? ? "In collaboration with the International Association for Health Professions Education (AMEE), we have established the AMEE International Networking Center in China, introducing the Essential Skills in Medical Education training series. This initiative aims to develop a faculty team with teaching and educational capabilities that align with international standards," he said.

? ? ? According to Xiao, 859 people have received training, 42 core educators have been awarded the title of Associate Fellow of AMEE, and 2 individuals have received the Honorary Fellowship of AMEE.
