【CGTN】Coronavirus Pandemic: Human and medical resources in place amid reoccurrence in Guangzhou

The southern Chinese city of?Guangzhou reported ten more locally transmitted cases, and two asymptomatic infections. Mass testing and vaccinations are both underway. Cao Bing takes a look at how the city makes human and medical resources meet demand.?

Several districts in Guangzhou started mass nucleic acid testing as dozens of new infections were confirmed over the weekend. Temporary testing hubs are now being set up in communities across the city, with hospitals and arranging medical workers to take the work. But completing the mission in the city is not only about testing a big amount of people, it also means standing high and humid temperature and long time of work for medical workers,?and of course a challenge for the supplement of medical resources.

HU XINYUAN?Senior Nurse? The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University 'Just take our hospital for example. Today we sent 140 medical workers to ten local communities for the mass testing. They work four hours a day in two shifts. Yes, temperature is high and work is not easy. Good news is the testing kit is fairly enough and we are now more experienced."

CAO BING?Guangzhou, Guangdong Province 'For hospitals, additional personnel and medical resources are not only needed for conducting mass testing across local communities, but are also integral to the city's vaccination drive, especially with the recent surge in demand."

Official data shows, by May the 27th, nearly 39 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the city and the daily number of jabs has surpassed 2.5 million, which is 10 times more than in the regular time.

According to the First Affiliated Hospital's Vice president, they are just one of many hospitals to have sent personnel to help with the vaccination.

CHEN MINHU Vice President? The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University 'The need of taking Covid-19 vaccines is growing and since March, we have been sending professional teams to make jabs for people over the past two months, and they have made a total of 110,000 jabs since then."

Even if coronavirus cases continue to be reported, human and medical resources are in place in Guangzhou, ensuring there's a strong wall in place to curb the spread of the virus. Cao Bing CGTN, Guangzhou in Guangdong Province.?
