Introduction

Department of Thyroid and Breast Surgery of First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University enjoys a long history, and is certificated as a National Key Discipline. Led by Prof. Shenming Wang, the department has been dedicated exclusively to patient care, research, education and prevention. All employees serve the patients in the spirit of “Offering Cure for diseases, bodies and hearts”. More than 85% of the doctors especially all young doctors have obtained PhD degree. To promote the development of disciplines, Senior Fellows and Consultants focus on their detailed specialty on breast and thyroid diseases. Doctors are sent to distinguished overseas universities to improve their clinical and research capabilities.

Clinical Services

The department offers 38 patient beds. More than 6000 inpatients discharged yearly with average length of stay less than 3 days. The department is among China’s best in early diagnosis, surgery, comprehensive treatment and whole process management of early and metastatic breast cancer. We also specialize in diagnosis and treatment of thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. We have successfully completed operations on huge thyroid tumor invading the trachea/blood vessels.

Education

Our mission of medical education includes specialized courses of 5-year undergraduate, foreign students and 8-year Doctoral programs. Every year, our doctors work as internship tutors of medical students, and mentors of the exchange students from Medical School of University of Glasgow. Many doctors have won prizes in Clinical Teaching Competitions of Sun Yat-sen University.
