Introduction
Department of Hematology has the capacity of 114 beds (including 8 beds of 100 level laminar flow); has 20 staff among which 4 are professor, 5 are associate professor and 90% have doctorate degree; been approved with doctorate degree program, training base for residency/specialist, clinical trial qualified site, national clinical key specialty by HFPC; hold the chairman position in the 6th?to 8th?Hematology Committee of Guangdong Medicine Association and the 2nd?Hematology Committee of Guangdong Medical Doctor Association, and the standing committee member position in the 9th?Hematology Committee of Chinese Medicine Association and the 2nd?and 3rd?Hematology Committee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association.
Clinical Services?????
Department of Hematology is an authoritative center in the diagnosis and therapy of leukemia, lymphoma, various anemia, rare and critical hematological cases inside and outside Guangdong province; enjoys national and international (especially among south-east Asia) reputation. Our rich and unique experience in the diagnosis and therapy for multiple myeloma is famous in China and well-known internationally. We have originated a new therapy modality for patients with multiple myeloma who are younger than 65 years old and had doubled the survival in these patients. Also we have creatively proposed the stratified therapy for multiple myeloma and the new scoring system for stratification.
Education?????
Department of Hematology has 4 tutors for doctorate candidates and 10 tutors for master-degree candidates, has cultivated 41 graduates, including 18 doctorate graduates and 23 master-degree graduates. 10 staffs have been awarded Excellent Teaching Manager or Excellent Teacher in recent 5 years. Prof. Li Juan has been appointed as the member of 11th Teaching Supervision Committee of Sun Yat-sen University.
Research
In recent 5 years, Department of Hematology has published 158 SCI papers, including 46 SCI papers published by us as the first accomplishing institute; gained more than 30 grants among which 4 are from natural science foundation of China; edited 5 monographs; hosted 2 international and 2 national conferences. Prof. Li Juan has won a first (at 2006) and a third (at 2016) prize in Science and Technology Progress Awards from Guangdong Province as the principle investigator.
International Collaboration
Department of Hematology has close cooperation with University of Alabama at Birmingham, working on the basic researches of multiple myeloma, especially on the myeloma bone disease and the drug resistance mechanisms in multiple myeloma. The cooperation achievement has been published on famous journals such as “Blood” and “Oncotarget”, etc. Now we still have one doctorate candidate working on myeloma basic researches in the University of Alabama at Birmingham. We have close contact with International Myeloma Foundation (IMF), sending junior doctors to attend myeloma clinical training every year. Also, we have close relationship with Heidelberg University of Germany, sending a junior doctor to myeloma training class every 2 years. After attending these training programs, junior doctors have significant improvements in knowledge of the diagnosis and therapy for multiple myeloma.
