Biography

Prof. Yu Xueqing now serves as Vice-Chancellor?of Guangdong Medical University Director , Institute of Nephrology, and President of Chinese Society of Nephrology. His research interests range from the basic to clinical. Yu and colleagues have been studying the genetic underpinnings of IgA nephropathy in Han Chinese, and Epidemiology looms large in his portfolio as well. He also initiated a clutch of cohort studies, and long term follow-up to figure out the risk factors. So far Yu has undertaken 44 research grants, and published 443 papers. For his outstanding performance in various fronts, Yu was awarded with the 2014 International Distinguished Medalist by NKF. He serves also as a member of ISN COMGAN (East Asia), Chairman of Membership Committee of ISPD, and executive member of APSN.

To help the have-not, Yu led the building of the country’s largest peritoneal dialysis program, currently dealing with more than 1,000 patients in SYSU, and thousands more in network centers. Yu also initiated a National Training Program for Rural Area, having helped?train some 2012 healthcare practitioners. Beyond borders, 46 Asian and 5 African doctors got trained in China thanks to his assistance. Yu himself has mentored 7 master and PhD students from Nepal, Pakistan, and Somalia.
