Introduction

Department of acupuncture at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is a unique center that combining clinic, education and research together. We have 12 medical faculties here, including 1 chief physician, 1 associate chief physicians, 5 attending doctors, 2 resident doctors and 3 nurses. many of our staffs have worked more than 15 years, becoming a cohesive team of the region’s top clinicians for diagnosis, treatment and nursing care.

Clinical Services ??? ??

Comprehensive therapies are available at our center, including ordinary acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, cupping, catgut embedding,acupoint injection, auriculotherapy, plum needle therapy, bloodletting therapy, fire needle, scrapping and moxibustion therapies. These diverse approaches have been particularly helpful for nervous system diseases like facial paralysis, apoplexy sequela, brain trauma sequela, infantile cerebral palsy, encephalitis sequela, migraine, depression and peripheral nerve injury.Neck lumbar disease, periarthritis of shoulder, strain of lumbar muscles, arms and legs twisted joints hurt, osseous arthritis also gain good treatments here.

Besides, we also use acupuncture therapies to treat internal medicine and gynecological diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, constipation, insomnia, chronic fatigue syndrome, dysmenorrhea, pelvic inflammation, and obesity. In addition,according to traditional Chinese medicine theory of 'winter disease cured in summer" and?"treating summer disease in winter", we also practice?"the canicular days"?and?"SanJiuTian"?natural moxibustion therapy, which has achieved good effect on chronic bronchitis, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis disease.

Now many acupuncture specialist are set up such as chronic insomnia specialist, osteoarthritis specialist, gastrointestinal disease specialist, chronic pain specialist, menstrual disease specialist in order to provide patients with better service.

Education ?

Our department has been responsible for the courses teaching task of?"acupuncture" and?"massage" for the students with clinical medicine, nursing or rehabilitation majors.We also in charge of clinical internship teaching for them. In recent years, we participate in the task of"Chinese medicine" teaching for the national students as well as cooperate with the rehabilitation institute of HongKong Polytech University and other universities. In addition, we have two master supervisors here and have trained 6 graduate students.

Research

We participated in various scientific research projects successively, including 1 items of national level, 7 items of? provincial level, 7 items of bureau level, 2 items of field rank. Hundreds of papers including SCI papers have been published.

We have made remarkable progress in scientific research in recent years, discipline construction has also made some achievements. At present, our department preside over more than 10 natural and provincial projects and published more than one hundred.SCI and core papers.The research of electro-acupuncture on governor meridian to treat spinal cord injury and chronic insomnia obtained great achievements and the development of digital insomnia therapeutic instrument obtained one national patents.

International Collaboration

As the quintessence of China, acupuncture therapy has also been welcomed by foreigners. In recent years,our department often carry out academic exchanges and learning with the college students of the United States and Australia.
