Opening Ceremony of the ESME Online Course series
?
The signature ESME course series by AMEE takes on a different form this year. Since the traditional on-site, face-to-face training has not been feasible due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, AMEE has adapted a distant learning modality for its ESME course deliverance in the "new normal". Grown out of our fruitful collaborations with AMEE, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is among the first beneficiaries from the new ESME Online Course series.
?
After months of planning and preparations, August 10th marked the beginning of the first module of the ESME Online Course series. Connected via Zoom, Prof. Trevor Gibbs, president of AMEE, and Prof. David Taylor, senior member of AMEE, Prof XIAO Hai-peng, president of FAH-SYSU, Prof. KUANG Ming, vice-president of FAH-SYSU, Ms. DING Shu-qin, director of the Office of International Affairs, Dr. YANG Da-ya and Ms. FENG Shao-ting from the AMEE Office in China 2.0, along with all course participants, attended the opening ceremony.
?
Having watched together an opening address video prepared in advance by Prof. XIAO for the ceremony, Prof. Gibbs expressed gratitude to our partnership, encouragements to our faculty members involved with clinical education, and optimism to the fruitfulness of the ESME Course series.

?
Besides the usual course content, a newly-minted Moodle platform has been established to compensate for the online deliverance of ESME. Course participants can easily access to all course slides and recommended reading materials, engage with instructors by posting questions and comments in relation to the course, and submit their course assignments all via the platform. The Moodle platform has tremendously facilitated the learning experience of ESME course series.
?
As always, the ESME course modules have been well received by participants. The instructors, Prof. Trevor Gibbs and Prof. David Taylor had taken the group through a wonderful tour in medical education.
?
Though connected online, our colleagues from different departments were enthusiastically interacting with course instructors and with each other. Individually and collectively in groups, class discussions had been inspiring and full of fun.
