Sino-Japan Webinar on Fighting COVID-19 Held in FAH-SYSU

On April 1, 2020, a Sino-Japan international webinar on fighting COVID-19 was held between the ultrasound professionals from China and Japan.? The event was co-organised by Prof. Kuang Ming, Vice President and Director of Interventional Ultrasound of FAH-SYSU, Prof. Xie Xiaoyan, Director of Department of Medical Ultrasonics of FAH-SYSU, Prof. Meng Zhiqiang from Centre for Minimally Invasive Therapy of Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, and a panel of experts from Asian Conference for Tumor Ablation (ACTA).

The webinar covered topics on COVID-19 prevention and control measures, management of liver tumour patients and procedures of liver interventional therapy operating.? The event fully conveyed the professionalism and determination of the medical professionals from the two countries to work together against COVID-19. 85 Japanese and over 1,000 Chinese doctors participated in the seminar.?

All parties exchanged views on prevention and control measures during the COVID-19 outbreak.? The participants also discussed the management of patients with liver cancer and the procedures for performing tumour ablation during the outbreak, the details as follow:

Prof. Kuang Ming experience in 'zero infection” among staff and in-patients and the measures of the prevention and control, the key points in management of patients with liver ablation in the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University. He shared the importance of training for medical staff. Prof. Kuang pointed out that all prevention and control measures must be done before the ablation surgery and should follow the priciple of “early report, early quarantine and early treatment”.

Prof. Xie Xiaoyan shared the key measures of prevention and control for medical staff who examine and treat with patients, analysed the importance of prevention and control measures, and specific guidance for specialists. Prof. Xie said that staff must carry out their duties in order and in a safe manner, which is the best protection for the medical staff, patients and their families.

Prof. Meng Zhiqiang introduced the current prevention and control measures in China. He also shared how his centre carried out detailed protective tests on the patients, as well as the strict protective measures for medical staff during the COVID-19 outbreak. Prof. Meng especially mentioned that in order to ease the difficulties for cancer patients in seeking medical care, he opened up online inquiry, online consultation and other online services to facilitate the patients to seek medical care and arrange follow-up treatment in time.

Prof. Shuichiro Shiina from Department of Digestive Oncology and Interventional Medicine of Juntendo University Hospital in Tokyo briefly introduced the current situation of COVID-19 in Japan and expressed his sincere thanks to the three Chinese experts for their full support.

COVID-19 is a global challenge to mankind, which requires efforts from the international community. FAH-SYSU will work with domestic and international experts and institutions against the pandemic.
