Introduction

Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) is a well-equipped department with 11 doctors, among which 5 with senior titles, 1 with senior vice titles, 4 doctoral supervisors and 2 master supervisors. There are 26 accommodated beds, receiving more than 800 inpatients per year, 90% of which were complex and critical cases. More than 800 surgeries were performed every year with level-4 surgeries accounting for 10%.

Clinical Services ???

Our department has accumulated rich clinical experience in the cardiovascular critical care. In addition to cardiac interventional procedures, we also develop new techniques of left atrial appendage occlusion and cryoablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Green channel is always opened for acute chest pain, which greatly improves the survival rate of acute myocardial infarction. Our department plays an important role in the rescue of cardiovascular critical patients and provides forceful supports for other clinical departments.

Education?

As the earliest established CCU in south China, we have organized 50 continuing education courses on cardiovascular critical disease, which have trained a large number of cardiologists for grassroots hospitals. Now we develop two national continuing education programs, cardiovascular emergency and intervention training, standardized residency training and undertake the teaching tasks for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. We now have 7 undergraduate doctoral students and 2 master students.

Research

We also take an active part in the scientific research. Annually a couples of articles are accepted by Chinese core journals and SCI journals, including?some of the most distinguished magazines like J AM COLL CARDIOL.?We also take charge of many national and provincial scientific research programs and once won the second prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress.

International Collaboration

Our department cooperates with the Stern Cardiovascular center of United States, working on the program of radiofrequency ablation to treat complex ventricular arrhythmias. The abstract was published in Heart Rhythm, Vol. 13, No. 5, May Supplement 2016, S26, AB11-04. Several staffs once went to University of Toronto and University of Maryland School of medicine for further studies of clinical and scientific research skills.
