Pediatrics Unit I

Introduction

The department is composed of three specialties, including Pediatric Nephrology, Rheumatology and Respiratory. It is selected as a Guangdong Provincial Key Discipline, a Key Medical Discipline of Guangdong Provincial '12th-five" program and a Guangdong Provincial Key Clinical Specialty. Our professional ability to diagnose and treat diseases has reached the advanced level in China and international. The Children's Kidney Disease Center is a leading nephrology specialty in Southern China and one of the first units to carry out renal biopsy in China. We participate in the development and updating of the Evidence-based guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of childhood common renal diseases, and are?responsible for the development and updating of the Evidence-bused guideline on diagnosis and treatment of steroid-sensitive, relapsing/steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome. Many doctors in the department hold important positions in national and Guangdong medical associations, such as chairman, vice chairman and the standing committee. Some of them serve in the editorial board of many medical journals.

Clinical Services

The Specialty of Pediatric Nephrology and Rheumatology:

The doctors focus on kidney and rheumatic diseases, including refractory nephrotic syndrome, lupus nephritis, purpura nephritis, acute renal failure and chronic renal failure. We carry out renal biopsy and pediatric blood purification therapy such as peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis. We collaborate with the department of Kidney Transplantation to perform perioperative assessment and treatment of children with renal transplantation. Due to our high quality medical service, we have been awarded the medical quality award and service quality award several times in our hospital.

The Specialty of Respiratory:

The doctors focus on respiratory diseases like asthmatic bronchitis, bronchiolitis, pneumonia and asthma, and perform the Pediatric Pulmonary Function Examination.

Education

The department has created the Teaching Team and Excellent Course of Guangdong Province. It has become a Research Station for PhD and Master, a Cultivation Base appointed by Ministry of Education for specialist training and continuing medical education and an excellent Model Base for resident standardization training. In addition, doctors in our department have?awarded many prizes including the 1st prize in Guangdong Provincial Teaching Award, the Tittle of “Baogang Excellent Teacher”, the grand prize in the National Medical College Clinical Skills Competition and so on.

Research

The department has undertaken more than 20 research projects supported by the National/Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Funds, and the Science and Technology Planning Projects of Guangdong/Guangzhou and won the 2nd prize in Guangdong Provincial Science & Technology Progress. Until now we have published more than 200 papers on the influential Journal at home and abroad and have written a series of monographs as editor or deputy editor.

Training

The department has become a cradle for PhD and Master of Sun Yat-sen University, a base appointed by Ministry of Public Health for pediatric specialist training and continuing medical education, and an excellent Model Base for resident standardization training. It has cultured many talents who are committed to rejuvenating Pediatric career and serving children all over the country.
